It is a massive understatement to say that these are difficult times, so we felt that we should make our position clear to our customers.
We are now only attending works that have legal, safety or welfare implications. We are complying to the fast paced advice from the Government and guidance from our industry bodies. We can confirm that Gas safe legislation on gas safety inspections remains the same, at this point. Gas Safety Inspections. The regulations state that you can book in your gas safety inspection up to 2 months prior to it's expiration and keep the same due date for the following year. So, we recommend that mandatory gas safety inspections are booked in as early as possible within the 2 month window, then if either party have to self isolate the appointment can postponed with the aim to re-book prior to the due date. We will ask if anyone in the house is self isolating and request that they notify us if this becomes the case, prior to the appointment. For those that are self isolating - Each appointment will be dealt with individually. For example, if someone, who says they are in good health and has only a day or so to the end of their isolation we will book them after their isolation period is finished. However if someone we feel may be vulnerable has heating or hot water failure, we will attend as soon as possible (with the appropriate PPE). In every case we ask that everyone in the house leaves the area that the Engineer is working. Where possible we can telephone to request that the door is opened and the Engineer will wait a while to give time for the occupant to moves to another area of the house, then when the works are completed the Engineer can call out to let them know he is leaving, after which the door can be locked behind him. We do ask that area of work be cleaned prior to our attendance. The engineer will be wearing gloves, using sanitiser, using anti bacterial wipes on the working area at the end of a job and will wear a mask if deemed appropriate or requested by the tenant/customer. Regarding parts and materials, where possible we are ordering them for delivery (to our designated area) rather than go into suppliers premises, which can be quite busy. On a slightly more personal note. Working from a home based office is an obvious advantage when is comes to limiting contact with others. The 4 people within our home all work in different environments and face different risks but all are adhering to the issued guidelines. However, we cannot rule out the fact that we may need to self isolate at some point.
